In this TED talk, Sunni Brown shows us how important doodling is to learning.
Part of being a children’s author is visiting schools to talk about books and writing. I’m an illustrator too, so for my primary school talks I have the students do an illustration with me. What if students were allowed to doodle all the way through school
I never hear any complaints from the Preps to Year 4’s about not being able to draw. But as the age of the student increases, so does their lack of confidence.
When I ask a class of Year 6’s, ‘Who likes to draw?’ everyone’s hand shoots up. But then many will add, ‘I’m not very good though.’
Imagine if students were allowed to doodle all the way through school.
Skills with line work and visualization would increase and both sides of the brain would be exercised.
It might turn out to be a very interesting experiment.
