Thirty-five judges considered a record 850+ original works across 11 categories. A total of $350,000 in prize money will be awarded when the winners are announced at the State Library on Monday 22 May, making these the richest state-funded literary awards in the country. Our authors represented across three categories, are; Christina Stead Prize for Fiction — #EveryVersionOfYou by #GraceChan (@affirmpress) About the novel, judges’ said; “An elegant exploration of a collapsing world and its reliance on quick-fix technology for those who can afford it, this novel portrays evolving forms of labour, leisure, relationship and resistance, shadowed by environmental, bodily and mental illness. It is complex, moving and beautifully observed.” Patricia Wrightson Prize for Children’s Literature — #ZadieMaandtheDogWhoChasedtheMoon by #GabrielleWang (@penguinkidsaustralia) Judge’s comments for Wang were; “This story’s beauty is enhanced by the relationships within Zadie’s family as well as her friendships with the unique character of Sparrow, a new child at school. Some of the stunning statues in the ancient cemete Some of the stunning statues in the ancient cemetery of Bologna - Cimitero Monumentale La Certosa. We only saw a small portion, it’s so huge but worth a visit. I also saw a little green lizard. And thought it was a great idea to have watering cans available to water the flowers at the graves. I particularly liked the two men reclining facing each other with one man holding a flower. What is their story? Today was my last day of Italian classes in Italy, Today was my last day of Italian classes in Italy, for now this year anyway. Here I am being presented with my Certificate of Participation. Everyday between our grammar class and conversation class we go to a cafe for a short break. It was the owner’s birthday so we all sang Happy Birthday to him.
