I’ve updated my print shop and added a lot of new illustrations. I get so much joy from painting. I love the whole process from pencil rough to mixing colours to feeling the stroke of brush on paper. I first outline in black ink with a very fine brush, then paint with Schmincke watercolor blocks and touch up with Windsor and Newton gouache to make some of the bits pop. The paper I like is Arches hot press and I’m still using the same brushes I bought in China in the mid 1980’s when I was studying there.
Each print is hand signed and stamped with my red seal. I have quite a number of these all variations on my Chinese name 兴霜which means Happy Frost. The paper I use to print on is Hahnemuhle 100% cotton rag which has the feel of real watercolor paper.
