Here are the dates and events I’ll be appearing in at the Melbourne Writers Festival Schools Program

Saturday August 24 Chinese brush painting at 12.30

Learn the secrets and traditions of Chinese brush painting from author and illustrator Gabrielle Wang

Hear stories of the Chinese horoscope, discover ‘the four treasures’, and paint under the guidance of an expert in this thoughtful and enjoyable workshop.

Suitable for children ages 8 to 12.

August 27  Chinese brush painting workshop at 11.15am

Learn the secrets, the stories and traditions of Chinese brush painting from author and illustrator Gabrielle Wang. Students will be introduced to -the four treasures- and paint their scenes under the guidance of an expert in this thoughtful and practical workshop.

Years 4-6

This workshop is for school groups only.

August 28 Speaking session Dream Myth Imagination at 12.30

Roald Dahl said, ‘Those who don’t believe in magic will never find it’.

Explore the worlds of magic and myth through the stories of Gabrielle Wang and Ambelin Kwaymullina. Bring your curiosity and leave with a brand new sense of wonder.

August 29  Speaking session East Meets West at 10am

Gabrielle Wang and Kate Forsyth reveal the traditional tales, myths and fables from Europe and Asia that are alive in their books. Are these two traditions distinct, or are there characters and stories that really are universal? What separates, what unites?
