Author visit a page turner for Stonnington students

POPULAR children’s author Gabrielle Wang dropped in to Stonnington Primary School to share her love of reading and writing.

Wang’s visit was part of the eighth annual Premiers’ Reading Challenge, which encourages students to discover the magic of books.

The students, who have taken up the challenge to read more books, were rewarded for their efforts with a visit from Wang, author of books including The Garden of Empress CassiaThe Lion Drummer andMeet Poppy.

Literacy co-ordinator and reading recovery teacher Sara Wyse said more than 100 year 3-6 students were involved in the program.

Ms Wyse said the visit from Wang was “just fabulous”.

“The children were really engaged,” Ms Wyse said.

“She asked them lots of questions about reading and writing, explained some of her characters and really brought them to life.

“She was very approachable and interactive with the students – she really inspired them.”
