I went to the bank the other day. As I approached the teller she said, You look nice.
This compliment is usually only ever made by friends and family, never by a stranger. (The one exception being shop assistants in clothing stores who are trained to say something nice about you.)
So I was surprised.
I said, ‘Thank you. That’s really nice of you to say.’
She replied,’Well, you do.’
I smiled.
And I kept on smiling for the rest of the day.
It is a simple thing. A few lovely words.
When I go out today I’m going to pay someone a compliment.
I do this, I swear! but only ever honest compliments. And the best compliment I’ve ever received was from a little 6 year old girl who told me I looked beautiful. I think she had a particularly bad day at school and I smiled at her and told her to enjoy her afternoon so maybe that’s why I looked beautiful to her <3
That’s lovely, Kathleen. Children are so honest. And lovely that you do this. I complimented the lady who served me in the cafe today. She had blonde hair cropped close to her head in tight curls.
