This story is similar to your “Meet Poppy” by Yvonne

“Piiiipppppaaaaa!” Mother Songbird called from down below.
“Whhhhaaaattt?” Pippa called from above.
“Don’t what me young lady!”
Pippa looked down. Out of all the leaves she could make out a body of a grown up.
“I’m sorry pardon?”Pippa said.
“I want you to come down this instant!”
“Not until you let my bunny out of the dungeon!”
It was a quiet moment until Mother Songbird talked again.
“Fine, I’ll let Aqua out but don’t let him go wandering around again if you do I will not let him out ok? He almost went up my dress before.”
“Ok.”
Pippa jumped down and called out:
“I’m back!”
Ava, Pippa’s best friend ran out of the orphanage to hug Pippa.
“I am so glad your back!” Ava yelled.
“Hey, hey you don’t have to yell” Pippa said.
Since Pippa was the oldest in the orphanage everybody asked her what to do when they grow up but Pippa couldn’t answer she wasn’t grown up yet because at the age of 12 she wasn’t even a teenager yet!
“I was sooooo worried when you weren’t in the orphanage you have been in that tree for three days!”Ava said.
“I don’t know why I went up there I just felt like it.” Pippa said.
“Alright people stop gawking at Pippa and start working!” Mother Songbird rang out.
Ever since Mother Songbird had taken over the orphanage it seemed like there was no fun anymore it seemed like work, work, and work.
“Ewwwwwwwwwww do we have to have the job of cleaning Aqua’s cage?” Ava groaned.
Pippa adored Aqua but she didn’t like it when he did his ‘you know what’ and she had to clean it now it was her and Ava’s turn to clean it.
“You’re cleaning it or you’re not getting paid!” Mother Songbird shouted. “Or do ya wanna clean the loo?” Mother Songbird said in her trying to speak Australian voice.
“No Mother Songbird.” Sang the two children.
“Good now run along little pests I need to rest.”
“I wish I could talk back at her. It seems like she doesn’t care about her children” Pippa thought as she carried the soap, gloves and water.
Just then she heard a big crash. Four children had knocked a big stack of chairs onto the ground and Mother Songbird stomped up to them and led all of them to the dungeon. “You little clumsies will not receive food nor water!” She shrieked.
The children tried to run away but Mother Songbird’s grip left them being pulled tightly.
“I am going to talk to her now for the first time.” Pippa said.
“NO!!!!!” Ava yelled.
“I am.”
“Oh well.”
“MOTHER!!!! It’s not fair you get to force children to do work and not let them rest you said your going to pay us but for three years you have been sitting and chilling out and let us do some things that are utterly disgusting, you put children in the dungeon just because they made a mistake like before those four children, the knocked the stack of chairs because you put a stack of chair at where they were working! IT’S NOT FAIR MOTHER!!!!” Pippa screamed.
Mother Songbird stood there from utter shock and then she started crying.
“I am sorry children I have been very harsh on you for the past few years because…
Pippa I am very sorry to say this but your father died and I have been telling you stories about him.”Mother Songbird sobbed.
